Rip Tide Collectibles
Children’s Toy Set
The objective of the project was to create a set of five structures to house children’s toy collectibles. These structures are all meant to be the same, so they can serve as a series of a collection of items.
This concept was created from the idea of balance. Sloth’s who are usually known as lazy, are juxtaposed not only doing yoga, but surfing while staying in their given yoga position. “Floating to serenity” enforces the relaxing qualities of yoga and meditation. The concept ties the beach with a temple for an exaggerated religious experience with yoga. To reach a balanced mind, body, and soul, the sloths use yoga to achieve this. To clearly communicate the importance of balance in yoga, the sloth is placed on a surfboard in the ocean to show the difficulty of maintaining balance.
To clearly communicate the importance of balance in yoga, the sloth is placed on a surfboard in the ocean to show the difficulty of achieving this. The temples open up as bridges and connect to each other. The five temples will each have a different name to relate to the sloth pose inside. If all sloth’s can float on their surfboards placed in slime, they may reach serenity.
The gold, ornate style of these temples is meant to reference the architectural structure of an old temple. By tying in the beach with the temples, the gold painted wood is sanded down for a more distressed look. The roped bridges add to the handmade quality of this collection and also replicate a small beach bungalow. Turquoise homemade slime was used to replicate the liquid feeling of the ocean.
